University of Applied Sciences Berlin extends teaching assignment of Frank-Holm Rögner for cleaning processes

After a first run in the winter semester 2023/2024, the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) in Berlin has extended Frank-Holm Rögner's teaching assignment in the M11 module “Historical Methods and Current Developments” in Department 5 “Design and Culture” for the master's program “Conservation and Restoration” from 0.5 hours per week to 1 hour per week. In the future, Rögner will give the lecture series “Cleaning principles and technologies for surface treatment and conservation” during the winter semester.

Expert with over 26 years of experience in research and technology development

With more than 26 years of experience at the Fraunhofer FEP, Frank-Holm Rögner brings extensive expertise in applied research and technology development. For over 10 years, he headed the E-Processing department, which is concerned with the use of accelerated, low-energy electrons for materials processing, cleaning, and diagnostics.

Since 2018, Rögner is heading the “Cleaning and Hygiene Technologies” group at the Fraunhofer FEP. This group specializes in the development of industrial cleaning technologies and offers comprehensive research as well as the development of customized cleaning technologies for special applications using, for example, wet-chemical and plasma-assisted processes, blasting processes, and sterilization processes.

Since 2020, Mr. Rögner has also coordinated the office of the Fraunhofer-Business Area Cleaning, which is the central point of contact at Fraunhofer for all topics related to technical cleanliness and innovative cleaning technologies.

Many years of research experience flow into teaching

As part of his teaching activities, Mr. Rögner will also organize a student excursion to the Fraunhofer FEP on January 23, 2025 to supplement the lecture with a practical module.

The group led by Mr. Rögner at the Fraunhofer FEP already offers comprehensive training and qualification programs for industrial parts cleaning, so the practice-oriented approach to training is not a novelty for the team, but an established practice based on many years of experience.

"This practical module gives students at HTW Berlin a direct insight into highly developed industrial cleaning processes and the use of innovative technologies. It is important to provide students not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical experience to prepare them for their future careers," explains Frank-Holm Rögner.

We are very pleased that Frank-Holm Rögner has accepted the teaching position and are convinced that HTW Berlin has gained an experienced expert who will impart valuable knowledge about modern cleaning methods, including for the sensitive environment of historical objects, to students.
