Fraunhofer Institute for Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP will be presenting innovative solutions for smart surfaces and coatings for the building sector at BAU 2025. Using technologies such as electron beam, plasma and sputtering technology, the institute develops surfaces that offer optical, electrical and antimicrobial functions, among others.
One focus is on low-E and solar control coatings, which reduce energy requirements by better regulating light and temperature in buildings. Thermochromic coatings adapt to temperature fluctuations and improve energy efficiency, while special coatings for solar systems increase the performance and longevity of modules.
Indoors, processes such as electron beam technology enable antibacterial and dirt-repellent surfaces. The Fraunhofer FEP is also working on advanced heat storage materials that support sustainable heating solutions.
In addition, the latest research results in the field of perovskite solar cells as well as encapsulation technologies for organic photovoltaics and structuring technologies for later design PV applications will be presented.
With these innovative technologies, the Fraunhofer FEP contributes to the development of sustainable, future-oriented buildings and offers comprehensive support from the feasibility study to pilot production.
Model house with thin-film technologies for the building sector, including:
Sustainable building materials from biogenic lime synthesis
Glass modules with anti-reflective coating
Mercury-free thin films for the reconstruction of historical mirrors
